Flood Risk Management Services for Multiple London Boroughs

PROJECT BRIEF

As the single supplier of the flood risk management lot of the Roads and Transport Services Framework, Metis provide Ealing and approx. 60% of London Boroughs with consultancy support.

OUR APPROACH

Metis provide Lead Local Flood Authorities (LLFAs) with a tailored service through inhouse support and project work. LLFAs benefit from our in depth understanding of the roles and responsibilities set out in the Flood and Water Management Act 2010. Our consultants have experience carrying out the day-to-day role of the Council Officers, reinforced by their wider understanding of the other risk management authorities, various funding sources and the process in which projects must progress to access external funding. Metis’ consultants use their local knowledge to identify areas at risk of flooding, carry out investigations and initial assessments, conduct detailed hydraulic modelling and progress alleviation schemes through all the design stages. Our environmental and civil engineers have the skills and experience to cover all aspects of the LLFA role.

PROJECT OUTCOMES

• Secured £5m+ in funding in five years from the Environment Agency’s Flood Defence Grant in Aid, Local Levy and surface water modelling funds, the London Mayor’s Greener City fund, the Natural Flood Management Fund, water companies and Heritage Lottery Funding.
• Produced Preliminary Flood Risk Assessments for 13 London Boroughs concurrently, comfortably meeting the Environment Agency’s deadline.
• Attended various strategic flood risk meetings since 2012 including local partnerships, LoDEG and the Thames Regional Flood and Coastal Committee.
• Feed into Greater London Authority’s guidance and advice. Most recently contributed to their ‘Reimagining rainwater in schools’ guidance.
• Designed and overseen the construction of SuDS in schools.
• Built detailed models for 27 catchments in 8 Boroughs, feeding into 12 business cases for the construction of alleviation schemes.
• Reviewed over 1,100 planning applications for 6 London Boroughs since 2015.
