Metis was founded in the UK in 2009 and extended operations to NZ in 2020. The Auckland based team is currently working from a shared office space in Newmarket. This means you will be working directly with senior team members from the outset.

The Role

As an intern we will get you involved in project work from day one. No photocopying and making the tea! You will be supported to deliver meaningful tasks, get involved in client meetings and given focused training. We believe that getting stuck in is the best way to learn. Our current work areas include:

  • Planning, design and delivery of three waters infrastructure & water quality improvement schemes
  • Asset and carbon management
  • Land development

Qualifications Required

You must be undertaking a degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering and completing Year 3 at the end of 2024 with an interest in three waters infrastructure and / or land development.

About You

We are seeking students that are interested in developing a career in Civil and Environmental Engineering, with the skillset to thrive in a small and dynamic team. You must have:

  • A demonstrable appetite for learning and developing your career further
  • Sound technical ability
  • Flair for innovation and thinking differently
  • Ability to work independently and be proactive
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Most importantly, the attitude to get stuck in and to get the most out of your internship

Salary / Package

You will be employed on a full-time fixed term contract for the summer period (approx. 12-15 weeks or as mutually agreed) with the potential of converting this to a casual contract for ongoing, ad-hoc, term time work. You will be paid the pro-rata equivalent of a graduate salary for the agreed fixed term. We promote a healthy work / life balance through a 37.5hr work week, flexible hours, hybrid working practices and regular social events.

The Role

We are seeking a team member with a minimum of five years’ experience in any of the following areas:

  • Asset management and / or local government financial planning
  • Supporting local government in development / implementation of Asset Management Plans and Long Term Plans
  • Business cases and investment decision making
  • Planning, design and delivery of water supply, stormwater and / or wastewater infrastructure

You will be responsible for leading project work, quality assurance and leading client relationships. We are actively delivering work in the areas listed below, but aim to expand this where we see demand or if you can bring new specialist skills to the team:

  • Project justifications / business cases and long term planning for three waters infrastructure
  • Researching and developing new areas of water and flood risk management policy for local government
  • In-house support to deliver local government clients for three waters services
  • Land development engineering for private and public sector clients

Qualifications Required

You must have a relevant degree, a full driver’s licence and the legal right to work and live in New Zealand.

Salary / Package

You will be employed on a permanent basis with a competitive salary. Full or part time candidates will be considered. Salary level will be agreed based on level of experience and current market remuneration benchmarks. Other benefits include:

  • 3% or 4% KiwiSaver Employer Contribution (depending on grade / experience level)

Qualifications Required

You must have a Washington Accord accredited degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, a full driver’s licence and the legal right to work and live in New Zealand.

  • Flood risk management
  • Water quality management

You will be responsible for leading project work, quality assurance and leading client relationships. We are actively delivering work in the areas listed below, but aim to expand this where we see demand or if you can bring new specialist skills to the team:

  • Project justifications / business cases for three waters infrastructure
  • Researching and developing new areas of water and flood risk management policy for local government
  • Development and review of stormwater reticulation and quality improvement schemes

Qualifications Required

You must have a degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, a full driver’s licence and the legal right to work and live in New Zealand. You will also ideally be a Chartered Professional Engineer with Engineering New Zealand (this requirement is not mandatory, but is desirable).
